Samar's Sit-In: Illustrations of Palestinian Activist Meetings in Quebec
In the middle of the night at a meeting in Montreal, I was sitting listening to folks talking about the dismantlement of the Al-Summoud encampment and I started to draw what I saw around me as I wasn't able to understand what was going on.
One drawing led to over 40 drawings in different setting linked to activists organizing around Palestine in 2024: ridiculous court cases, chanting in front of McGill University's Rodrick Gates, gatherings, meetings, public conversations, conferences.
When comrades would see my drawings and recognize their friends, it felt as if we are all connected trying to make sense in this world with interlinked issues but such a pool of apathy mostly in the Quebecois society. The friends and folks I've met, I have respect for them because they did something. They are learning more, shedding light on the unjust court systems and genuinely being there for each other.
